"You Can’t Run" – The Lie Too Many Athletes Believe

Hi Reader,

A few weeks ago, I worked with a new running client—a 15-year-old girl who had been told by multiple people that she couldn’t run.

Not that she was slow.
Not that she needed some tweaks.
Just a straight-up “You can’t run.”

And she believed it. Deeply.

She was nervous, hesitant, and convinced that nothing could change. It broke my heart to see such a young athlete already carrying this belief—one that had been placed on her by others.

But here’s the thing:

Within 10 minutes, everything changed.

With just a few simple adjustments, her technique improved instantly. She was lighter on her feet, more fluid, and more confident with every step.

And then I looked over at her mum—she was wiping away tears.

It was a beautiful moment.

This young girl had gone from believing she couldn’t run to sprinting with ease—not because she suddenly became a different athlete, but because she finally had someone teaching her how.

And that’s what most athletes are missing.

Running is a Skill—And Every Athlete Needs to Learn It

As a coach and therapist, it frustrates me when people are labeled with limiting beliefs:
🚫 "You're too slow."
🚫 "You're not built for running."
🚫 "You’ll always struggle with speed."

These statements stick. They shape how we see ourselves and what we think we’re capable of.

But here’s the truth: Running is a skill. And just like any skill, it can be taught, improved, and mastered.

That’s why if you’re an athlete, a parent, or a coach, this should be a priority.

✅ If you want to run faster, smoother, and without pain—you need to learn how to run correctly.
✅ If your child plays soccer, footy, or netball—their running ability directly impacts their game.
✅ If no one has ever taught you proper technique, foot positioning, or stride mechanics—you’re leaving potential on the table.

This one-hour session with a 15-year-old girl completely changed her confidence and performance. Imagine what’s possible for you—or your child—when you actually dedicate time to learning how to run the right way.

Running isn’t just something we do. It’s something we can train and refine.

If you’re ready to unlock your running potential, let’s get to work.

How to run

“You don’t rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.” – James Clear Most runners blame the pain on: ❌ Bad shoes ❌ Bad knees ❌ Bad luck But here’s the truth: It’s not your body that’s broken. It’s your running mechanics. Every step you take is a skill. If you’re landing heavy… overstriding… collapsing at the hips… You’re putting 3x your bodyweight through fragile joints. No wonder it hurts. The fix? ✅ Re-learn running like a skill ✅ Build strength from the ground...

Pain is just weakness leaving the body

Hey Reader, Back in my early days of sport, there was one phrase I heard over and over again: “Pain is just weakness leaving the body.” You probably heard it too. And maybe, like me, you believed it. So we pushed harder. Ignored the warning signs. Trained through the twinges. Ran until something snapped — quite literally. Looking back now, it’s wild how normal that mindset was. Even celebrated. But here’s what I know now: 👉 Pain isn’t weakness. 👉 It’s communication. Your body is always...
